Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating is a job for the specialists, our plumbers specialise in supplying and fitting underfloor heating - this is not expensive inefficient electric heating. We fit underfloor waterpipe heating which is cheap to run and can run off the main central heating system.
Almost any common, conventional heating method can be used with underfloor heating ie. Gas, oil, solid fuel, solar panels or electric-resistance hot-water boilers can be used heat creation. Condensing boilers, and ground-coupled heat pumps are also suitable as the heat source of underfloor heating systems and are efficient if used in this way. Underfloor heating can be run at as low a temperature as 35 °C (95 °F), this allows a heat pump to run at a coefficient higher than that of with wall-mounted radiators running at 75 °C (167 °F).
Cold water from a chiller or solar cooler can be used in wet underfloor cooling systems and used in reverse, taking heat energy out of the building, ideal for really hot countries – not so common in the UK.
Electric Underfloor heating systems
Electric systems can also be installed in kitchens or other rooms that need additional heat - such as a kids' playroom or cold basement.
One advantage of electric underfloor heating over water based system is that it can be laid without building up the floor too much; floor build up could be as little as 1 mm.
Benefits of Electric Underfloor Heating
Warm up times are generally a lot quicker than wet / water systems because the cables are installed directly below the floors surface making it a direct heat source as opposed to a storage heater.
Today’s technology means that most modern cables have a built in return, so you only need to connect the heating mat or cable at one end, the circuit is already completed. This makes installation a lot easier. Heating cable or mat can be laid directly into concrete and then tiles laid on top.
Low temperature and energy efficiency
For all types of underfloor heating air-infiltration heat loss is reduced significantly when compared to forced-air systems. Heating cold air from outside requires extra energy and decreases humidity, as discussed above.
The system will be set to a relatively low temperature required by underfloor heating (=
