Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating and cooling systems are becoming very common forms of central heating and cooling. These systems use heat conduction and radiant heat (or cold) instead of forced air heating which relies on convection. Depending on whether you choose Water or Electric, Heating is provided by heated water being circulated or by electric cable or electric mesh. Either of the above Underfloor heating systems can be used with concrete or wooden floors and covered with any of the following; most types of stone, tile, wood, vinyl, and carpet this could be at ground level or upstairs. The type of floor finish used ie. tiles, wood etc. requires careful consideration - the different floor finishes may affect performance of your heating system.

Hot Water Underfloor Heating
A hot water system uses warm (or hot) water which is circulated through plastic pipes or tubes that are laid under the floor (if under floor boards) or within the floor (solid concrete screeding). There are many types of pipe that can be used including; PEX, multi-layer (PEX and aluminium) and polybutylene to name a few. Copper pipes are not suitable for underfloor heating. The pipes we use include; 10mm,12mm, 15 mm, 16 mm or 18mm pipe.

Electric Underfloor heating systems
Electric underfloor heating systems have much lower installation and material costs that water based systems. They are generally easier to install and the main materials needed are a heating mat and thermostat which can be bought in good value kits.
Generally electric (mat) floor heating systems are used in the bathroom to add a bit of luxury to your bathroom by warming the tiles and not seen as a means of replacing central heating.
